Copper-engraved map for Samuel Bochart, Geographia Sacra, in his Opera Omnia, Leiden, 1692. (Bochart (1599-1667) was a French scholar who studies were mainly biblical and linguistic.) Image 310 x 400 mm., sheet about 360 x 460 mm. Later hand-colouring. This map extends from the British Isles in the north-west to Sri Lanka (here called Taprobana) in the south-east, and features an elaborate cartouche including some of the animals described in Bochart's Heirozoïcon.
