Copper-engraved map for Samuel Bochart, Geographia Sacra, in his Opera Omnia, Leiden, 1692. (Bochart (1599-1667) was a French scholar who studies were mainly biblical and linguistic.) Image 323 x 400 mm., sheet about 360 x 465 mm. Later hand-colouring. The map describes the dispersal of humanity after the fall of the Tower of Babel. Bochart beleived this event to be the key to the dispersal of different languages. Vertical folds as issued, and a few minor horizontal creases.
