Collier Discharging, by Edward Cooke
Stock No. 5366PS
Etching drawn and etched by Edward William Cooke for his Fifty Plates of Shipping and Craft, 1829. Plate 169 x 210 mm., sheet 210 x 283 mm. Professionally cleaned and delicately hand-coloured.
Edward William Cooke (1811-1880, RA 1864), the son of the engraver George Cooke (1781-1834), was an important painter, etcher and engraver who specialised in maritime scenes, though he also produced landscape, botanical and architectural work. His precocity as both a draftsman and an etcher is apparent in this series of plates, published when he was only eighteen.
