[Lee, Sarah Bowdich]: Taxidermy: or, the Art of Collecting, Preparing, and Mounting Objects of Natural History for the Use of Museums and Travellers

London, Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, & Longman, fifth edition, 1835.  Author not stated.  Small 8º (165 x 100 mm.), pp. 182, five plates (one as frontispiece and four at end), publisher's catalogue (pp.16) dated October 1838.  Publisher's green bubble-grain cloth, spine lettered and blocked in gilt, yellow endpapers, bookseller's ticket (John Stacy, Norwich) on paste-down, Ownership signature of (Reverend) Thomas Burney with date 1839 and his printed card (?) on front free endpaper.  A few insignificant foxing spots to plates, otherwise a fine, clean copy.

An important book on the subject first published in 1820 and republished several times.  The author, Sarah Bowdich (née Wallis), (1791-1856), had married the naturalist Thomas Edward Bowdich in 1813.  He died during their travels in Africa in 1824.  Two years later she married Robert Lee after which she sometimes wrote under the name Mrs. Robert Lee.
